Let’s face it, the bathroom isn’t the most glamorous room in your household. Ranging from staid and boring to downright dangerous, many modern bathrooms are not designed as thoughtfully the rest of our homes. The irony in that fact is that bathrooms are one of the most expensive rooms in the house to build, averaging about $10,000 a pop. Still, for all their expense, the design hasn’t evolved too far beyond shiny fixtures and his ‘n her sinks: many of us are still using the five-by-eight bathroom with the three fixtures — toilet, sink, and tub — all lined up in a row. And while it might help maximize space, having a dirty fixture where you deposit your waste (the toilet) next to two where you clean yourself (the sink and the tub) doesn’t make for the healthiest environment.

The following are 5 Tips for successful bicycle commuting. Why? Let’s pretend that gas prices aren’t at an all time high…we are still destroying the planet with gas and exhaust fumes. Earth-friendly transportation includes car pooling, walking and bicycling. If you live ten miles or less from your job, you may want to seriously consier giving bicycle commuting a chance. Not only are you saving the planet, you will be getting daily exercise and enjoying all that nature has to give with your new scenic route.

One of the best ways to sart to go Green with your pet is to start with a recycled dog; meaning to adopt a pet. If you are already a Green Pet Owner, then bump it up a few levels by using organic pet food. Your pet will be happier, healthier and greener.
The phrase “green air conditioning” is one of the most ironic statements I have ever made. However, one cannot expect to live comfortably during the summer months without it. Now that we are in August, one of the hottest summer months, I though I would post some tips on how to save the planet while still cranking up the AC. Try a setting 10 degrees cooler than the day’s high temperature. You’ll save 3 percent on energy costs for every degree raised over 72 degrees. Or raise the temperature setting even more and turn on a fan. And be sure to draw the blinds and curtains during the sunniest and warmest times of day.
Organic grocey stores like Whole Food vowed to get rid of all plastic grovery bags by Earth Day in 2008. Now everyone else is joining in for the cause. Most major drug and grocery stores, in Southern California, now sell their own fiber woven bags. The retailers are encouraging the shoppers to bring their shopping bags with them every time they do their shopping. Last month, the governor of California announced that shoppers will not have to pay for plastic and paper shopping bags, but should purchase the eco-friendly bags instead to save the environment, while saving their money. Eco-friendly shopping bags range anywhere from .99 to $1.99 per bag. Grovery stores will start to charge up to .25 per plastic or paper shopping bag. I purchased my eco-friendly bags from my friendly neighborhood, Gelson’s about 3 months ago. We keep them in the trunk of the car and always use them while grocery shopping.

Since it can take more than 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down in a landfill, polymers of every single plastic bag ever produced still exist on our planet. As they break down, plastic bags go through photodegradation—breaking down into small toxic particles that contaminate both soil and water, and end up entering the food chain when animals accidentally ingest them. It takes roughly 430,000 gallons of crude oil to produce 100 million plastic bags, and in the U.S. alone, about 100 billion plastic bags are thrown away each year (and only 0.6 % of them are recycled).
