7 Ways to Achieve Zen in the Office

Living a Zen Lifestyle includes achieving it in the workplace as well. This may be easier said than done, but this article may help you get on the path to success in the workplace. Achieving zen at the office has more to do with living up to your bosses’ expectations. Everyone is an induvidual, valuing different traits, and have various ways of handling different office issue. The workplace is an excellent area to practice Organization and Mindfulness.
- Research. Research is an excellent way to get the upper hand at your job. Reading up on the company makes you better informed and prepared. It can also give insight into what kind of workers are valued by the company. A question you may want to ask yourself during this process: “Is the company traditional or non-traditional?”
- Value. What is your value to this company? Are you detail oriented? Companies value employees with good written and verbal communication skills. Those who are able to both give and take directions are also valued as are those who are able to work independently, without instruction, and in a group.
- Personal Responsibility. Employers tend to want to hire individuals who have a sense of personal responsibility and a desire to succeed.
- Honesty. The secret to finding happiness at the office is being open and honest about who you are. It is not recommended to be dishonest about character traits. This may get you though the interview process, but will leave you high and dry and time passes. It will also leave employer’s wondering where the person they hired went. It is always better to cultivate skills that are already there, than pretending to be able to live up to the workplace’s requirements.
- Pride. Take pride in the work that you do. Employers can smell fear and insecurities. While these may be tolerated for a little while, you will eventually have to have a good amount of self worth.
- Work Ethic. Let your employers know that you are there to do your job to the best of your capability. You are not there just to fill the day and collect a paycheck.
- Avoid Office Chatter. Stay away from office gossip and water fountain conversations. Don’t whine and get tempormental.
