Green Living Web Highlights: Recycled Laptop Bags, Going Green Gradually, The 100k Green Home
Going Somewhere? Is Your Laptop Going With You?
Recycled Laptop Bags are an instant way to feel good and protect your goods. Materials range from PET (recycled soda bottles) to Mountain Tarps. Frietag has been making bags from recycled tarps, seat belts, and air bags since 1993. I love that while every bag may be cut from a shared cloth, each piece is unique. See http://www.freitag.ch/shop/FREITAG/shop.jsf.
Want a simple laptop sleeve then check out Act 2’s Laptop Green Sleeve. Made from recycled soda bottles, they give you the bottle count for all their products and offer a view of the recycling process. This one can be found at www.act2greensmart.com.
And when you’re done with your old laptop send it to Second Rotation for recycling. Second Rotation buys and recycles used electronics. They pay for shipping to them. They call it turning clutter into cash. I call it a great idea. What’s your old MP3 player worth? Learn More at www.secondrotation.com.
Going Green One Step at a Time with Gorgeously Green
Sophie Uliano writes about going green without “going without.” You can still be fabulous and get everyone you know in the action. According to Sophie we can all go green even if we don’t drive a hybrid car and shop organically. We just need to pick our shade of green bright to dark. I’m all for small steps to make a big impact. Recycling today can lead to composting tomorrow. Read Sophie’s article on going green in The Huffington Post. Check out Sophie’s Gorgeously Green web site for a variety of green info including recipes, travel, eco home life, and beauty. She even has tips to start planting your own vegetables one season at a time. You can find it at www.gorgeouslygreen.com.
Keeping Up With the Ludemans, Green Home Design for 100k
Chad Ludeman is building a home in North Philadelphia for 100k. Being from New York, 100k for a house seems unfathomable to me. But this site blogs all the steps being taken to do just that. Details include buying the land, getting building permits, design, financing and construction. Ludeman is looking to combine various green program ideas to make the home energy efficient and sustainable. These include LEED, Energy Star and Passive House. I think that combining methodologies can only expand on an already creative idea. Look to this blog for potential ideas you can use in your own neighborhood. Building from the ground up can be fraught with many issues, but having a blueprint can make it easier on anyone. The 100K House is one that we may all be able to afford. Now and in the future.
